Ronwen Williams Bags Top Awards
Mamelodi Sundowns captain and goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, has been awarded two of South Africa’s top footballing achievements.
On Sunday, 23 June, Williams beat teammate Teboho Mokoena and Stellenbosch FC’s Iqraam Rayners to win the trophy for Footballer of the Season at the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League Awards, which were broadcast live on SABC and SuperSport TV.
“God is great for allowing me to be Footballer of the Season,” the 32-year-old shot-stopper said in a video clip uploaded to his official Instagram account. “I’m so honoured, I’m happy, I’m over the moon, but I couldn’t have done it by myself.”
Thanking his teammates at Sundowns, as well as the club’s staff members and executive officials, Williams also thanked his family: “Thank you to my loved ones for being there and supporting me throughout my career. This [award] is dedicated to you.”
He also walked away with the trophy for Goalkeeper of the Season for the second consecutive year, beating out Badra Sangare (Sekhukhune United) and Sage Stephens (Stellenbosch FC) to claim this “massive honour.”
Congratulations to Ronwen Williams on his well-deserved achievements – here’s to many more successful seasons ahead!
